Former Rwandan Defense Official Convicted of Instigating 1994 Genocide

Former Rwandan defense official Theoneste Bagosora has been convicted of instigating the country’s brutal 1994 genocide that stretched for 100 days and left more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus dead.

Bagosora was found guilty by a UN tribunal of organizing the genocide and was sentenced to life in prison. Along with the charge of organizing the 1994 genocide Bagosora was found guilty of crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Two co-defendants, Anatole Nsegiyumva and Alloys Ntabakuze, were also convicted of the same charges and handed life sentences by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
