Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton are close to finalizing a battle between them in the 140-pound division, according to reports Thursday.
The proposed Pacquiao-Hatton fight will be held in Las Vegas and will pit arguably the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world against one of the world's best sluggers.
Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) is coming off of a Dec. 2 fight in which he handily defeated Oscar de la Hoya in a 147-pound division bout. In order to participate in the fight, Pacquiao had to move up two weight classes.
However, Pacquiao will now move down a class to face Hatton (45-1, 32 KOs), whose last fight was against Paulie Malignaggi on Nov. 22 as he defended his title belt. Hatton has had two wins this year after suffering his first career loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in December 2007.
Golden Boy Promotions will promote the Pacquiao-Hatton bout. Golden Boy has a promotional deal with Hatton and they promoted Pacquiao's last fight against de la Hoya.
