Gemma Arterton loves London anonymity

Gemma Arterton enjoys London because she can go out without being recognised.

The 'Tamara Drewe' actress - who was born in Gravesend, Kent, South East England - doesn't get recognised when she is out in the UK capital, but struggles to go about her business in her hometown.

Asked if she remains incognito in her spare time, she said: "Not in Gravesend, but in London absolutely. I walk everywhere and use the bus. People are very respectful of your privacy."

Gemma, 25, has also revealed she has developed an "obsession" with staying fit in her downtime.

She is an advocate of Bikram yoga - a technique where exercise is done in an extremely hot room.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I'm obsessed with Bikram yoga and trampolining. But not at the same time, obviously!"

The brunette beauty has previously revealed she had to hide in the toilets of a restaurant to escape some fans when she was recognised during an evening out in Gravesend.

She said: "Grew up in a town that's not that far away from London at all, but not the countryside, and I went home two weeks ago for a visit.

"I went to a restaurant and people kind of recognise you more when you are from there. It is kind of weird. And they idolise you and put you on a pedestal. In London I think everyone is preoccupied with their own lives to even care. But it is weird going back to your hometown. I just go and hide in the toilet."
