Former Ethiopian Leader Released from Prison after Serving 12 Years

After serving a dozen years in prison for corruption and abuse of power former Ethiopian Prime Minister Tamerat Layne has been released from prison.

 

The former PM was part of the coalition government that supplanted Ethiopia’s military regime headed by Mengistu Haile Mariam in 1991 but by 1996 he had been removed from the government for the improprieties.

 

Layne had been sentenced to 18 years by the Ethiopian Supreme Court but was released early for good behavior.
