At
least one construction worker has died and 18 others left injured after a
walkway at the Atlanta Botanical Garden collapsed Friday morning.
According
to reports a crew of construction workers had been pouring cement on a walkway
they had been working on when the pedestrian bridge collapsed.
The
bridge, called a “canopy walk,” had arched over a ravine that was to give
visitors to the botanical garden an elevated view of the scenery. The bridge
extended 600-feet and had been under construction since September.
Many
of those injured were in intensive care with spine and back trauma while at
least two suffered brain injuries.
