Illinois
Gov. Rod Blagojevich spoke for the first time since accusations surfaced
detailing his alleged plans to sell the Senate seat vacated by President-elect
Barack Obama as well as other federal corruption charges.
Instantly
Blagojevich declared himself “not guilty of any criminal wrong-doing” and then
emphasized “I will fight, I will fight, I will fight until I take my last
breath.” While Blagojevich denied any wrong-doing he did not address any of the
charges specifically but said he looked forward to addressing each allegation
in the appropriate forum.
Blagojevich
then assured that he had no intention of quitting and that he planned on
carrying on the business of the state before offering a quote from Rudyard
Kipling.
He
ended his brief news conference telling reporters he had the most powerful ally
on his side, “the truth” and he then requested those residents of Illinois to
reserve judgment and offer their presumption of innocence until he has his
opportunity to appear in court.
