Russian Aluminum Workers Kidnapped by Gunmen in Nigeria

A group of gunmen have kidnapped two workers of a Russian aluminum company operating in the violent Niger Delta of Nigeria.

According to reports the gunmen used speedboats to make land in Itar-Tass and attack the residential compound where the two men were staying.

The men were working for UC Rusal and the company released a statement recognizing the kidnapping saying, “The two employees of the company were kidnapped. The company is taking all necessary measures to free the hostages as soon as possible.”

The oil-rich region of the Niger Delta has been a common ground for gunmen to kidnap foreigners. The attackers often reach large financial agreements with the oil companies for the release of their employees.
