Riley
Skinner was a perfect 11/11 passing for 166 yards and a touchdown, Kevin Harris
collected 136 yards rushing and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (8-5) offense
rolled up 406 yards of total offense to beat the Navy Midshipmen (8-5) 29-19 in
the inaugural EagleBank Bowl at RFK Stadium.
Early
on it looked like Navy would score their second win over Wake Forest this year
as they built a 13-0 lead with a pair of field goals from Matt Harmon and a
fumble recovered and returned 50-yards by Rashawn King for a touchdown.
Wake
managed to stop the bleeding with 36 seconds left in the first half as Josh
Adams scored on a 4-yard run to cut their deficit to 13-7 at the break.
The
second half the Demon Deacons looked like a different team as they grabbed their
first lead midway through the third frame as Adams added his second TD on a
5-yard run for a 14-13 advantage.
Navy
managed to reclaim the lead in the fourth when Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada scored
on a 2-yard keeper but their two-point attempt failed to leave the score at
19-14. Wake Forest answered the Midshipmen with a scoring drive of their own as
Skinner hit Ben Wooster on an 8-yard touchdown pass and their two-point
conversion gave them a 22-19 lead with 7:52 left in the game.
The
defense of the Demon Deacons came up big in the second half and they continued
to hold Navy and then stopped the Midshipmen on a fourth down with just over a minute
left on the clock. Wake then put the game away when Rich Belton scored on a
35-yard run with 54 seconds remaining.
