The Taliban has claimed responsibility for kidnapping 50 Afghan men over the weekend. The men were traveling in four vehicles in the Chapa Dara district of Kunar province Sunday when they were captured. A Taliban spokesman said all 50 men confessed to being policemen, but Kunar police chief Khalilullah Ziayi said it has not been confirmed if the men are police officers or prospective recruits.
"We have got documents and evidence that shows all the 50 captured people are policemen and they have also (confessed) during the investigations too. We will take a decision about the captured policemen according to the situation and enemies' actions,” Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told CNN.
Authorities are negotiating for the men’s release.
