New Mexico Bowl Score: Colorado State Rams Use Big Fourth to Drop Fresno State Bulldogs

Gartrell Johnson rushed for 285 yards and two touchdowns and added 90 yards receiving, Billy Farris threw for 257 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the Colorado State Rams (7-6) rolled up 619 yards of total offense and used a fourth quarter rally to knock off the Fresno State Bulldogs 40-35 in the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque on Saturday.

Fresno State held a 14-10 advantage after the first quarter with short TD runs from Lonyae Miller and Anthony Harding while the Rams scored on an 18-yard touchdown run from Grant Stucker and a 29-yard field goal from Jason Smith.

Smith cut the Rams deficit to 14-13 late in the second quarter with a 22-yard field goal but the Bulldogs pushed their advantage to 21-13 when Miller found a hole and went 69 yards for a touchdown. It looked like that lead would hold till halftime but then Farris found Kory Sperry on a 22-yard TD toss with two seconds left on the clock and the score was 21-20 at the break.

Harding provided the only points in the third quarter as he scored on a 2-yard run for the Bulldogs to once again push the lead to eight.

In the fourth quarter the Rams let loose as Johnson scored his first touchdown of the game on a one-yard run but the two-point attempt failed and the score was 28-26. Less than three minutes later the Rams grabbed their first lead when Ferris hit Rashaun Greer on a 69-yard touchdown pass to make it 33-28.

After forcing the Bulldogs to punt late in the final frame Colorado State scored their third straight TD as Johnson broke a 77-yarder to push the lead to 40-28 with under two minutes. Fresno State finally stopped the bleeding when Tom Brandstater caught 7-yard td toss from Ryan Skidmore but the ensuing onside kick was secured by the Rams and they had the win sealed.
