Drew Brees was 30/40 passing for 351 yards and two touchdowns, Marques Colston had 99 yards receiving and a pair of TD receptions and Pierre Thomas collected 77 yards rushing and a score as the New Orleans Saints (8-7) pounded the hapless Detroit Lions (0-15) 42-7 on Sunday. The 0-15 mark is the worst record in NFL history and the Lions will now have to go on the road and beat the Green Bay Packers to avoid a winless 2008 campaign.
The Saints scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the opening frame as Robert Meachem found the endzone on a 20-yard run and Deuce McAllister made it 14-0 on a 2-yard run.
Detroit cut their deficit to 14-7 in the second quarter when Kevin Smith scored on a one-yard run but the Lions would never get closer as the Saints got a one-yard TD run from Mike Bell and a 2-yarder from Thomas to push their advantage to 28-7 at halftime.
Brees put the game away in the third quarter as he hooked up with Colston twice, a 6-yard toss and a 3-yard toss, and the Lions showed no signs of life.
New Orleans racked up 532 yards of offense compared to just 255 yards for the Lions, 111 of those yards came from Smith.
