NFL Scores Week 16: Atlanta Falcons Lock Up Playoff Berth with Road Win Over Minnesota Vikings

Matt Ryan threw for 134 yards and a touchdown, Michael Turner collected 70 yards rushing and a TD and the Atlanta Falcons (10-5) defense forced four turnovers to beat the Minnesota Vikings (9-6) 24-17 on Sunday to lock up a playoff berth in the NFC and still have an outside shot at winning the NFC South.

Michael Turner provided the first points of the game as he capped Atlanta’s opening drive with a one-yard touchdown for a 7-0 advantage. Minnesota managed to tie the game at 7-7 late in the frame though as Tarvaris Jackson hit Visanthe Shiancoe on a 21-yard touchdown pass.

Atlanta grabbed control of the game in the second quarter as Atlanta capitalized on a fumbled punt and Ryan tossed an 8-yard shovel pass Jerious Norwood for a touchdown to reclaim the lead 14-7. Jason Elam then added a 22-yard field goal as the half came to an end and Atlanta was up 17-7.

The Falcons caught a break in the third quarter to move up 24-7 when Ryan tried to get into the endzone on a keeper but fumbled and Justin Blalock fell on the ball for Atlanta for the touchdown.

Minnesota tried to stage a comeback in the fourth as Ryan Longwell hit a 29-yard field goal and Jackson hooked up with Shiancoe on a 17-yard touchdown pass with 2:50 left on the clock to climb to within 24-17. The Vikings had the ball late in the game and were driving to tie the game but turned the ball over on downs.
