Britain's Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Madrid today (30.03.11) as part of a three day visit to Spain.
The royal couple - whose trip to Spain is part of a larger ten-day tour including Portugal and Morocco - will meet with members of Spain's royal family tomorrow (31.03.11), some of whom will attend next month's wedding of Charles' son Prince William to Kate Middleton in London.
Charles and Camilla will stay at Pardo Palace - the former residence of the late dictator Francisco often used for visiting foreign dignitaries -during their two night visit to Madrid.
During the couple's trip to Portugal which began on Monday (28.03.11), Charles and Camilla attended a state dinner hosted by President Anibal Cavaco Silva and First Lady, Dr Maria Cavaco Silva and laid flowers at a monastery.
The planned stop in Morocco - which will complete their tour - comes despite unrest in the Arab world that has toppled a number of North African leaders. Morocco has so far avoided persistent unrest however several people died last month in violence linked to protests.
Clarence House said Foreign Secretary William Hague had urged the couple to go ahead with the visit but officials will be following developments with close attention.
