Charlie G Hawkins wants Woodyatt's record

Charlie G. Hawkins wants to become the longest-serving actor on 'EastEnders'.

The 20-year-old actor has already portrayed teenage wheeler dealer Darren Miller for eight years, and is hopeful he can one day eclipse Adam Woodyatt, who has played Maserati-driving businessman Ian Beale since the show began in February 1985.

Charlie said: "I've been on 'EastEnders' for eight years already and I'm only 20.

"You could say I have got my eyes on the Maserati."

Charlie's most recent storyline has seen his alter ego's relationship with Jodie Gold (Kylie Babbington) come to an end after she realised they want different things from life following an accident involving Darren's son George, whose mother is downtrodden Heather Trott (Cheryl Fergison).

The incident also saw Darren drop his plans to fight for full custody of the youngster as he realised he and Heather need to work together to raise George.

Charlie explained recently: "Darren understands that he needs Heather's help if he's to take care of George properly. He realises that he can't manage on his own. He and Heather come up with a deal where she has George during the day, and Darren looks after him in the evenings. That way, everyone seems to be a winner."
