The $1 Green Gift, Carbon Offset a Homepage for Christmas

When shoppers seek a gift of meaning in these last few days before Christmas, they should consider the possibility of offsetting their friend's or relative's homepage.  At least that is what 4Offsets CEO Fred Weiss is suggesting for those stumped for a gift that has both positive meaning and a value not measured in dollars.  "This Christmas, more than any in the last 50 years, people are looking for gifts that are about more than fashion or consumerism. Not only do Carbon Credits from 4Offsets do meet that criteria, but they represent projects that are reducing the negative affects of an industrial/consumerist society."  Weiss added "and at $1 a year to offset a homepage this gift is affordable to all." 

Carbon Offset Credits are commodity contracts representing a project that removes or offsets the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as CO2 and Methane.  4Offsets, LLC thru it's membership in the Chicago Climate Exchange (the CCX) offers credits represented by contracts on the CCX.  The company offers to offset a "web homepage" (think a blog and places such as MySpace or Facebook) for $1 for a year.  The CO2 offset offerred by the company assumes the average homepage shares a server with 150 other users on a PC style server.  The company has been offering carbon offsets since February of 2008 via its website with the assistance of its network of hundreds of affiliated websites.
