High at the Oscars
Whoopi Goldberg admits she was smoking pot before her Academy Award win.
They say that winning an Academy Award is a high like no other, but when Whoopi Goldberg took the stage to accept her Oscar in 1991 for her role in Ghost, she took that literally.
TMZ recently released a clip from 1992 in which Goldberg tells a story about smoking pot before her big moment.
"Smoking cigarettes and pot every now and then are my habits,” the comedian and View host said at the time, adding, “I thought, I've got to relax. So I smoked this wonderful joint that was the last of my home grown."
The star admits she wound up so “relaxed” that she worried about making it to the stage to accept her Best Supporting Actress trophy. While Goldberg managed to get through the acceptance speech, she says her mother called her later and knew something was up.
Functioning Addict
Goldberg also admitted early this year to being a functioning addict at one point in her life. She came clean about it on her talk show while commenting on fellow celebrity Charlie Sheen and his addiction troubles.
