Rejection Found to Cause Physical Pain

by Daun Lee

At numerous points in our lives we are rejected by lovers, friends, and spouses. Researchers from the University of Michigan, Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute study the brain waves of 40 men and women to determine the effects that rejection have on the body, according to UPI.com. Using a MRI, the brainwaves of these patients showed that pain caused by physical stimulus and recalling the break-up of a romantic relationship elicit the same response in the brain, as cited on WebMD. The two different types of pain activate the same brain pathways.

This research proves what rejected individuals have ‘known’ all along, love hurts. Unfortunately, a large number of marriages in the US end in divorce. A break-up of a marriage causes more than emotional pain; there are other issues as well, which include the division of property and finances along with custody of children produced by the union. For those facing a divorce, a divorce attorney is essential to help with the process and take away some of the many burdens.

Retaining a divorce lawyer can’t alleviate the pain of rejection, but they can relieve some of the frustrations that divorce proceedings can cause. Because there is much legality associated with divorce, the emotionally distraught spouse may be unaware of the processes that have to be followed in order to end their marriage. Experienced divorce attorneys are capable of advising the parties of their rights options concerning property division and child custody.
