All golfers, even those who can't break 100, have a chance to win a national golf championship without using a handicap or competing in a high-handicapper division. The U.S. Putting Tour's inaugural national championship is open to all golfers over the age of 12, including men and women, amateurs and professionals.
"The one thing all golfers have the potential to do equally well is putt," said U.S. Putting Tour founder, Jim Hartley. "That's why our national putting championship is open to everyone, without separate divisions for men and women, ages, ability levels or even amateurs and pros."
The 2011 USPT Championship will be held in Carlsbad, California at The Crossings at Carlsbad, September 24-30. The putting tournament will take place over three rounds on the large, two-tiered putting green at The Crossings, which boasts a view of the Pacific Ocean.
Golfers will compete for a guaranteed first prize of $10,000, the USPT Championship trophy and the title of America's Best Putter. Amateur golfers have the option of competing as amateurs for merchandise prizes so as not to jeopardize their amateur status.
Eighteen-handicapper, Josh Hall, believes he can compete with anyone on the greens. "I struggle on the golf course, but on the greens, I'm like a scratch golfer," said Hall of San Diego, California. "I've always wanted to compete for a big championship in golf; this is my chance."
