Monday Night Football Scores: Chicago Bears Cling to Playoff Hopes with OT Win Over Green Bay Packers

Matt Forte rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, Greg Olsen had 49 yards receiving and a TD and Robbie Gould kicked a 38-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Chicago Bears (9-6) to an improbable 20-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers (5-10) on Monday night to keep their playoff hopes alive.

After a scoreless first quarter the Packers grabbed control of the game in the second frame as Aaron Rodgers tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jennings and after Gould put the Bears on the board with a 31-yard field goal Rodgers hit Ryan Grant on a 17-yard touchdown and Green Bay carried a 14-3 advantage into the half.

Chicago came back in the third quarter as Kyle Orten hit Olsen on a 3-yard touchdown pass to trim the Bears deficit to 14-10 but Mason Crosby pushed the Packers advantage to 17-10 in the fourth. The Bears chances looked dim after Orten was picked off for the second time in the game but Chicago’s defense held that opened the door for Forte who led the charge and eventually found the endzone on a 3-yard run with 3:11 left in the game.

Green Bay had a great chance to win the game in regulation as Crosby lined up for a 38-yard field goal but Alex Brown blocked the kick to send the game into overtime. That was all the Bears would need as they won the coin toss and marched down the field eventually setting up the 38-yard game-winner from Gould.

Chicago managed to win despite being outgained 325-210 and managed to convert just 3-12 third down opportunities.

The Bears can now clinch the NFC North if they beat the Houston Texans next week and the Minnesota Vikings lose to the New York Giants. They can also earn a playoff berth if they win and the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers lose.
