The Jackson family has apparently taken issue with a joke made by an American Idol contestant on Wednesday night's show.
After delivering a very flashy and in-your-face performance, Idol contestant James Durbin was asked what he was most nervous about before the performance. Durbin replied, "I have a lot of hairspray in my hair to keep it from jumping around -- so much so, the one thing I was worried about was having a 'Pepsi moment.'"
Durbin was, of course, referring to the famous 1984 incident in which Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire while he was filming a commercial for Pepsi. The injury severely burned Jackson's scalp and, according to a report from TMZ.com, "triggered an addiction to prescription drugs that may have ultimately taken his life."
A representative for the Jackson family told TMZ, "We were shocked to see this. It's nothing to make light of and everybody should be focusing on who was responsible for Michael's death."
The representative also said that Joe Jackson was particularly upset by the fact that producers did not edit out the comment in the West Coast feed of the show.
