BBC Breakfast to recruit new hosts

Susanna Reid may not become the main host of 'BBC Breakfast'.

The 40-year-old presenter had been expected to take over as the popular daytime programme's female anchor after Sian Williams decided not to stay with the show when it moves to the BBC's new offices in Salford Quays, but programme editor Alison Ford is planning to recruit new hosts, though it is not yet decided what role they will play.

A spokesperson told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "She doesn't want to have her hands tied at this early stage. She wants time to think.

"There will be a new female presenter and another male."

The news is likely to come as a blow to Susanna, who reportedly sees the main presenter role alongside Bill Turnbull - who has agreed to make the move North West - as her "dream job".

A source said: "She'd jump at the chance to be top dog. Susanna loves the BBC - this is her dream job."

Current weekend host Charlie Stayt is rumoured to be in line for a bigger role on the programme as he has indicated he would be happy to make the move.

Almost half of the show's staff will move to Salford, with the rest staying in London either taking redundancy or getting other jobs within the BBC.

Sian cited "family reasons" behind her decision not to make the move to Greater Manchester.

She said: "Sadly, family reasons mean I can't move to Salford next year."
