Caylee Anthony Public Memorial Service to be Planned

A public memorial service will be planned for Caylee Anthony, the Orlando two-year-old whose disappearance last June ignited numerous searches and captured the attention of the country.

Late last week the remains of Caylee were discovered in a wooded area less than a half-mile from her grandparent’s house where she stayed with her mother, Casey Anthony. Casey is awaiting trial on first-degree murder charges and is scheduled to appear in court in March.

While Caylee disappeared in June it wasn’t until a month later that Casey Anthony reported her daughter missing. For months volunteers and organizations searched for Caylee despite evidence mounting that her mother had played a role in the case. Casey continued to deny any involvement in Caylee’s disappearance and told investigators that she had dropped her daughter off with a babysitter and when she returned both were gone.

A break in the case came on Dec.11 when water meter reader uncovered a plastic bag in a wooded area and upon lifting the bag a child’s skull hit the ground. After analysis is was confirmed that the remains were those of Caylee Anthony but the cause of death was listed as homicide by undetermined means.

With the confirmed death of Caylee Anthony a public memorial service for the young girl is now being planned but the service won’t be held until a second autopsy is completed.
