Parcel Bomb Injures Two Employees of Swissnuclear

An explosion Thursday at Swissnuclear, a lobby group in Olten, Switzerland that represents numerous power companies, injured two female employees. Authorities say the blast was caused by a parcel bomb. Both women sustained minor burns and hearing damage. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police have not made any arrests in the incident. Swissnuclear has not commented. The attack comes weeks after Energy Minister Doris Leuthard halted plans for three new nuclear power plants in light of the nuclear crisis in Japan. Leuthard ordered all current safety standards for nuclear power plants to be reviewed. Revisions will be made if necessary.

“Safety and the well being of the population has utmost priority,” Leuthard said.

According to the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, nearly 40 percent of Switzerland’s electricity is produced by nuclear energy.
