Border Arrests Have Been on Decline

by Daun Lee

The number of arrests on our border with Mexico has decreased over the last two years. In a report by Fox news, Cochise County Deputy Sherriff Larry Dever disclosed that he has been told to reduce and halt apprehensions of Mexican immigrants who try to cross the border. Dever said he has Border Patrol has asked him to reduce arrests during specific reporting periods. Instead of arresting the people attempting to cross they should chase them back.

Department of Homeland Security secretary Napalitano has maintained that illegal immigration has declined since the beginning of Obama’s Presidency. With no arrests being made there is no actual reporting of the number of people attempting to come into the country. Illegal immigration is a hot topic, especially in states that lie on the border. Borders states are being strapped economically and have seen crime on the rise which they attribute to illegal immigration. The US allows millions of foreign people to work and live in the US so becoming a citizen with by employing an immigration attorney is relatively easy. Mexico contributes the largest number of both legal and illegal immigrants to the US population.

Gaining citizenship is beneficial for an immigrant, firstly because if illegal they face deportation which affects the ability to migrate in the future. Secondly, obtaining citizenship with the advice of an immigration lawyer allows the immigrant to enjoy access to the various social programs afforded to citizens. Illegal immigrants can employ immigration attorneys and become fully recognized citizens that don’t have to live in fear of deportation.
