The Workability of the Narconon Program

According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, there are over 26 million Americans in need of drug rehabilitation services. Out of the many programs available there is one organization that has been successfully rehabilitating drug addicts for over 45 years and has a success rate that is 4 times that of the international average.

Narconon (meaning no drugs) was begun in 1966 by William Benitez, a hard-core heroin addict. Having struggled himself many times in trying to overcome addiction and participating in the various traditional methods that make up many drug rehab programs today, all to no success, Mr. Benitez was given new hope when he came across a book written by American author and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard. By applying the principles he read about he and dozens of others were able to kick life-long heroin addictions for good.

The Narconon organization has spread from that simple beginning to a world-wide network of drug prevention and rehabilitation programs. The Narconon program is unique in that it is entirely drug-free. They have no interest in doing a "pill-swap", swapping out one addiction for another. One of the basic truths the Narconon program, and any successful drug rehab program operates off of is that, although sometimes drugs are medically necessary, drugs are essentially poisons.

Fortunately, the Narconon program has a safe, effective non-drug method of withdrawal that avoids the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that accompany addiction. Taking the pain out of recovery paves the way for the drug addict to become fully rehabilitated in both body and mind.

As each individual gets hooked on drugs in a unique way, it is important for a drug rehab program to take up the personal concerns of an addict. The Narconon program has a series of course that address the individual and puts them back into the driver's seat of their life.

By way of example, one young adult female student of Narconon, had a series of tragedies in her life that led to her addiction from the time she was 13 onward. At 13 her father lost his sight, not knowing how to cope she turned to marijuana. At 16 her sister committed suicide with prescription drugs and at that point the girl gave up and turned to prescription drugs herself. Through caring family she found herself at Narconon. The girl describes her experience at Narconon:

"I now have my life back. I am happy to be alive and happy to be clean. I have my confidence back, the trust and love of my family and a wonderful future ahead of me. The staff at Narconon Suncoast saved my life and I thank them every day for that. I am glad to say the old me is back and better than ever thanks to the Narconon Program." -A.D.
