Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue to be axed?

Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue reportedly face the axe from 'The X Factor'.

Show chief Simon Cowell is said to be planning the biggest shake-up in the talent show's seven years on screen and, with him and Cheryl Cole off to work on the US version of the programme, he wants to recruit an entirely new judging panel.

A source said: "If Simon and the other show bosses get their way, this will be the most dramatic shake-up in 'X Factor' history.

"The producers are excited by the idea of the show being entirely fresh.

"There is a view that Louis and Dannii are a bit tired and have offered al they can, especially Louis. But they'll be shocked to hear they may not be wanted."

Rumoured names in the frame to take over as judges include former panellist Sharon Osbourne, Boyzone star Ronan Keating - who is currently a judge on the Australian version of the show - Michael Buble, Lionel Richie and Lily Allen.

In addition, Simon would make occasional appearances via satellite link and would return for the show's final, while a fifth judge - which could include the likes of Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow - will change every week.

However, ITV chiefs are said to worry viewers will switch off if too many changes are made to the programme.

One insider told the News of the World newspaper: "ITV is already taking a massive gamble by going ahead without Simon or Cheryl. Dispensing of Dannii and Louis would be madness.

"Viewers love Dannii especially. Simon has never understood how popular she is. It is important she is there, and for viewers to have a sense of familiarity"

It is believed Louis could be offered the role of head judge on in Irish version of the show instead.

Host Dermot O'Leary's job is safe, while Georgie Thompson, Matt Edmondson and Brian Dowling are in the frame to replace axed 'Xtra Factor' host Konnie Huq.
