Getting on one of the coveted Best Places to Work lists means creating a great work environment. But this takes some simple and some challenging steps, according to “Build It & They Will Come,” the latest thought leadership white paper released by Kinetix, the RPO firm for growth companies.
“The initial steps to morphing your company into a great place to work are easy, but the final steps are hard—like riding a bicycle on a freeway hard,” explains Kris Dunn, chief human resources officer and partner with Kinetix, in the article. “The first thing . . . is offer benefits that average companies can’t or won’t provide. This is the ‘buy’ stage, which is the easy part. You just have to have the commitment to write the check—every single year.”
Dunn asserts that the ‘shock and awe’ of having an employer pay 100 percent toward healthcare benefits goes a long way toward making a company a leading best employer in terms of employee opinion. But offering other ‘killer benefits,’ time-off policies, and a modern, comfortable workspace, are only the easy steps to creating a great work environment.
“Build It & They Will Come” also explains that great benefits alone won’t ensure the positive employee perspectives or a place on the Best Places to Work list. The article offers additional steps that take a company to the next level, including two-way performance reviews and promotion of talent. While difficult to implement, the steps are well worth the effort, according to Dunn.
