Crystal Mangum, the 32-year-old stripper who famously claimed she was gang-raped by a group of Duke lacrosse players in 2006, has now been accused of stabbing her 46-year-old boyfriend.
Mangum was arrested in Durham, NC, Sunday morning after reportedly stabbing her boyfriend repeatedly in the torso, and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Durham Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said officers were dispatched to a stabbing call at 3507 Century Oaks Drive at 3:15 a.m.
Sunday's arrest is the latest in a long run of legal troubles for the North Carolina ex stripper who was once at the center of one of college sport's biggest scandals. In 2006, Mangum claimed three Duke Lacrosse players sexually assaulted her at a party for the team where she was working as a stripper.
The case became one of the most racially-charged trials in recent memory before the prosecutor was ultimately disbarred for lying to the court and the three accused men were declared innocent.
Since then, Mangum has been convicted of a series of misdemeanors, including charges of child abuse and resisting arrest in December.
Police have not yet released the name of the victim, but said the stabbing occurred during an argument between the two.
The victim was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
