A day of fun at an Illinois amusement park turned into a day of tragedy after a 3-year-old boy plummeted to his death from a children's roller coaster.
Jayson Dansby was seated with his twin brother near the front of the "Python Pit" ride when he slipped under the safety bar and tumbled 10 feet to the ground. Norridge Police Sgt. Louis Orlando told The News the boy suffered fatal head injuries in the Saturday fall.
Orlando said he died at the scene in what appears to be "a tragic accident. He may have gotten scared and tried to climb out (of the coaster),"
A woman answering phone calls at the park Go Bananas on Sunday afternoon said the park was no longer commenting on the situation because of the high volume of calls. "We'll be closed for the next couple of days," she added.
The indoor park has been opened for six years in the Chicago suburb of Norridge. It offers roller coasters, bumper cars, a climbing maze and inflatable bouncer among other attractions for kids.
In a 2010 article in the Pioneer Press, The park's owner said he wanted to keep it family-friendly, especially for younger children.
"We cater to 3- through 12-year-olds," he said. "We're totally family-oriented. We're not a game room. We have a rule here that if you're under 13, you have to have a grown up or guardian with you. If you're over 13 - you have to have a little kid with you because we want to keep it purely for families and maybe families can have fun together."
Orlando said the park had never had safety issues in the past.
