Spartan Race Heads to Georgia for Mud Run Challenge

Global Leader in Obstacle Racing Hosts Georgia Mud Run

Registration is open for participation in the April 30 Spartan Sprint Race at Georgia International Horse Park at Centennial Olympic Parkway Northeast, Conyers.

The Spartan Race, the leading mud run, extreme obstacle racing event, is designed to test participants’ resilience, strength and stamina.  “The unique obstacle course will demand every ounce of strength, ingenuity, and animal instinct you thought you lost 3 generations ago. Course details are held in secrecy until competitors meet them face to face,” said Brian Duncanson, race director.

Who is a Spartan Race competitor?  “Everyone, really – men, woman, students and seniors. The Spartan Races are designed for all participants, beginners to hardcore warriors and marathon runners alike, to have fun and cross the finish line. You need a little physical conditioning and a taste for some adventure,” said Duncanson.

This is the eleventh mud run 2011 event in the international Spartan Race Series that began in Burlington, VT in 2010. The series is leading the way, thanks to extreme athlete, Joe Desena of Pittsfield, VT, who is legendary for the annual Death Race in Pittsfield. Spartan Race Series winners earn a spot in the 2011 Pittsfield event.

A portion of all money raised in the Spartan Race Series will go to building a home through Homes For Our Troops, a national non-profit that assists severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

If you're a military man or woman, enter SpartanSolider235 for 20% off your entry fee; friends and family members of the armed forces are also allowed to utilize this code. In addition, non-military participants can enter Spartan4life for 15% off fees.

“The Spartan Sprint Race is a fun 3-mile competition where racers can challenge themselves and measure their performance against others across the globe,” said Duncanson.

Spartan Race was first formed in 2005 by a group of serious athletes and a Royal Marine. Spartan’s website explains that “An obstacle course race is designed to test your resilience, strength, stamina, quick decision making skills, and ability to laugh in the face of adversity.” Spartan Race was founded by three purposeful individuals: Richard Lee, Joe DeSena and Selica Sevigny; Lee is a former British Royal Marine. Valuing the Spartan code, all three set out to create a more accessible Death Race that pushed both the mental and physical limits of athletes. For more information, please visit SpartanRace.com

$100,000 goes to the Spartan who can win the entire 2011 Spartan Race (domestic US) series that began in Southern California in February.
