One of China’s most famous artists was stopped from taking a flight to Taiwan to discuss an exhibit was detained by Chinese authorities, according to the Wall Street Journal. The famous artist aided in the design Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium for the 2008 Olympics. Weiwei along with his wife and several employees were detained by Chinese officials on Sunday before boarding a plane in Beijing headed to Hong Kong. His wife and staffers were released in Monday but Weiwei is still in custody.
The artist has been known tom criticize the Chinese government through his Twitter. His followers are fearful that he will be charged with subversion and held indefinitely.
