Officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed at least 26 United Nations staffers died Monday when the plane they were traveling in crashed upon landing at the airport in Kinshasa. The plane broke into pieces after hitting the runway. Heavy rain may have played a part in the crash.
“A crisis task force is working at the crash site,” said U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky.
Authorities say at least 6 people were injured. The cause of the crash is under investigation. No other details were available.
