Yale Criticized Lack of Action taken towards Sexual Harassment

By Daun Lee

The CBS ‘Early Show’ featured a story that focused on the tendency of Yale officials to mistreat or cover-up story of sexual harassment and abuse on their campus. Fourteen students, both men and women came forward to say that the university did not properly address issues of harassment and abuse. The story also included photos of frat boys holding a sign saying “We like Yale Sluts”.

Feminist author and former Yale student, Naomi Wolfe stated that Yale did not effectively deal with her sexual harassment charges twenty years ago. She also suggests anyone subject to harassment obtain a sexual harassment attorney if they have complaints. Yale refutes the claims of the students and Wolfe citing they take charges of sexual harassment and abuse very seriously.

Sexual harassment and abuse are common on college campuses. Some statics cite that 62 percent of women and 51 percent of men are subjected to sexual harassment by a fellow student. Though colleges have disciplinary boards to address the issue of sexual harassment it is the best interest of the victim to retain a sexual harassment lawyer to assure the perpetrators is justly punished for their indiscretions.

Dealing with sexual harassment can make attending school very difficult for the harassed individual. To help eliminate the distress a sexual harassment attorney should be hired to deal with the school’s bureaucracy that may be concerned with protecting their interests, and not necessarily the student’s problems with harassment
