Two American troops operating under the command of NATO were killed Monday in northern Afghanistan. According to a local official, the men were teaching border policemen in Faryab when a man wearing an Afghan police uniform shot them. The suspect has reportedly been identified as 23-year-old Samarudin.
"Initial reports say that there were about six Americans inside the meeting room and only two of them have been killed," Faryab deputy governor Abdul Sattar Bariz told CNN.
The gunman was not arrested. He fled the scene on foot, according to Bariz. Neither NATO nor United States officials have confirmed the victims were American. The shooting is under investigation.
