Several
hundred Somalis have been arrested in the Ethiopian capital city of Addis Ababa
and while many have been released at least 200 remain held.
There
has been no explanation for the arrests with many of them coming as police
entered homes or grabbed Somalis off the street. While the Ethiopian government
has offered no reason, the city is preparing for a meeting of the African Union
and has stepped up security measures in the host city.
The
majority of the arrests took place on Tuesday and Wednesday in the area of Bole,
an area heavily populated by Somalis.
Police
have been checking the papers of those arrested and taking fingerprints.
