Facebook Offers Evidence in Divorce Cases

A story appearing in the UK’s Telegraph showed that one law firm found that people seeking divorce because of divorce cited Facebook in their petitions. MySpace and Facebook can be a great way to connect with people but can also be utilized for nefarious reasons.Many spouses are discovering infidelity and other indiscretion occurring daily on Facebook and other social networking sites. On Facebook a person can find old friends and former lovers which on occasions lead to reunions. Some people cheat on their spouse physically or through sexual talk on the numerous social networking and dating websites. According to divorce attorneys online 20 percent of those initiating divorce are doing so because of sexual chats as opposed to actual physical contact.

Divorce lawyers can use Facebook and their counterpart to find evidence of cheating spouses. Infidelity is a common reason people seek out divorce. Approximately 57 percent of men and 54 percent of women step out of their marriages to for sex or companionship. It just goes to show how little privacy one has on these websites. Only 31 percent of marriages survive after infidelity and the majority of divorces are initiated by women.

Divorce can be an ugly business and to assure their clients success in their court cases divorce attorneys can use evidence they gather from social networking sites to garner favorable judgments. The two parties involved in divorce proceedings have a lot at stake including the division of assets and custody of children.
