Following the discovery of three bodies on Monday, New York authorities will resume their search for 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert on Tuesday. The search for Gilbert began last year in the Gilgo Beach area of Long Island and led to the discovery of the bodies of four women in December. Police found another body last month and three more bodies on April 4.
None of the newly-discovered bodies have been identified. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said the medical examiner will determine if any of the remains are those of Gilbert. “The medical examiner is going to be looking at the possibility that Shannan Gilbert is one of the remains. We do have forensic and information available to the ME that would either prove it's her or eliminate her,” Dormer said.
Gilbert went missing in May 2010 and was last seen in the Gilgo Beach area. She and the four women discovered in December were prostitutes who advertised on Craigslist.
