Golf cart driver charged with DUI

By: Tanya Gonzalez

A man from central Florida was charged with DUI after he was caught driving a golf cart in the wrong direction of a highway.

Eric Perez, 36, was stopped by a Hernando County deputy around midnight on Saturday while driving a golf cart. The deputy reported that the golf cart had no lights and that Perez smelled of alcohol.

The deputy asked Perez to perform a series of field sobriety tests but he failed to pass them. Perez was then arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

After testing his blood alcohol content in jail, Perez’ BAC level was found to be 0.251 and 0.242 percent, which is three times the legal limit in Florida.

The golf cart Perez had been operating was returned to Frontier Campgrounds in Brooksville.

Perez had passengers in the golf cart with him, which authorities made arrangements to take home.
