A skydiving accident at a school in Rosharon, Texas near Houston claims the lives of two individuals.
Two people died on Wednesday at the Skydive Spaceland School shortly after 11 am. According to witnesses, the two divers’ parachutes got tangled with each other and the victims fell between 100 to 200 feet without inflated chutes.
"It looked like the shoot partially opened, and that was it, and whoever it was hit the ground hard," said Jim Pearson, a witness to the incident.
Some of the witnesses attempted to provide first aid until EMS crews arrived. One of the victims, Arthur Bill, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim, Houstonian Scott James, 27, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he later died.
Skydive Spaceland Manager Jason Hyder said both men had skydived many times before.
"These divers were experienced skydivers,” said Hyder. “I've known them for a few months; they are wonderful people, very excited to be doing what they're doing."
A total of seven skydive jumps at the Skydive Spaceland School have ended in death .
