Kurt Cobain Shrine Erected in Washington

Grunge Legend Further Immortalized

On Tuesday, a 13-foot guitar statue was erected in Washington to commemorate the life of grunge rock icon Kurt Cobain, who is best remembered for having been the lead singer of Nirvana.

The statue was unveiled during the afternoon in Cobain's hometown of Abderdeen. According to a report from TMZ.com, Cobain's grandfather and former bandmates were expected to attend the event.

According to the statue's artist, Lora Malakoff, the statue is located near Young Street Bridge, where Cobain would often go to write lyrics.

Cobain was the frontman of Nirvana, a wildly popular grunge rock band during the 90's. Nirvana reached worldwide fame after the release of their 1991 album Nevermind. In 1994, after dealing with an unexpected level of fame and other personal issues, Cobain took his own life.
