A new high stakes golf putting tournament is launching in 2011 with the inaugural U.S. Putting Tour Championship, which will take place September 24-30 in Carlsbad, California.
While high stakes golf has taken off on the golf course, participation has been limited to below-scratch golfers with their own money or financial backing. However, the U.S. Putting Tour Championship requires only a $100 ante to participate for the guaranteed $10,000 winner's share of the prize purse.
"For the first time, all golfers who want to compete for a big cash prize have a tournament to enter," said U.S. Putting Tour president, Jim Hartley. "Good putters come from all corners of the golf world - men, women, amateurs, professionals, young and old. The USPT Championship will determine who can putt the best under pressure."
The
putting championship takes place over three rounds, with cuts occurring after each of the first two rounds. Each round will feature medal play competition, all of which will be held on the primary practice green at The Crossings.
The U.S. Putting Tour also offers qualifying
putting tournaments at which golfers can qualify for the USPT Championship. Golf clubs, men's and ladies clubs, charities, and golf enthusiasts can hold qualifying events for the championships.
Hartley indicated that
golf sponsorship opportunities are available for this high stakes golf putting tournament. Information on the golf tournament sponsorships is available at the U.S. Putting Tour website and by emailing info@usputtingtour.com.
Golfers can enter the USPT Championship online. Hartley encourages golfers to enter early to ensure a spot in the September tournament.
