The Associated Press Reported that a Charleston WV man sold over 3.5 million dollars’ worth of illegal cigarettes and a small amount of oxycodone. Basim Al Talouzi 45 pleaded guilty to the receiving, transporting, possessing and selling contraband cigarettes. He also pleaded guilty to selling 30 80mg oxycodone tablets to an undercover agent with the street value of a little over 2,000 dollars. He also sold 87 30mg and 50 80mg tablets of oxycodone to other buyers. He could face 25 years in prison.

Prescription drug use poses serious problems for our society on the road and in the home. Our nation’s drug treatment facilities reported a dramatic increase in the number of people entering their programs who are addicted to prescription drugs like oxycodone and vicodin.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 10 to 22 percent of car accidents involve people who are driving under the influence of pain killers. Prescription drugs can be as intoxicating as alcohol and if caught driving under their influence a DUI attorney becomes necessary.

Drunk or drugged driving collisions injure or kill many thousands of people throughout the US on a yearly basis. Even though a person may legally possess oxycodone or other prescription drugs, getting behind the wheel under their influence can have serious legal ramifications that a DUI lawyer can offer some protection. The courts give out harsh punishments for DUI charges that a DUI attorney can work towards minimizing.
