Chemical Spills out of Overturned Truck in New Orleans

WWLTV reported that around 6:30am a tractor trailer overturned near Tchoupitoulas and Calliope Street. Once overturned about 30lbs of a white chemical began spilling out of the truck, according to The New Orleans Fire Department. Hazmat was called to clean up the chemical which has been identified as glyphosate and is used as a weed killer. NOLF stated that glyphosate can be irritating and long term exposure has potentially damaging effects.

The police are investigating to determine the cause of the accident. Only the driver of the 18 wheeler was harmed in the accident and was taken to the hospital. No injuries that require accident lawyers have been reported from exposure to the glyphosate. Hazmat teams worked through the morning to clean up the toxin.

Unlike today’s accident in which no injuries occurred, many thousands of people are harmed by traffic accidents as well as exposure to toxic chemicals. These people often find themselves suffering at the hands of another’s carelessness. Injuries can be debilitating and even worse can result in permanent disability or the loss of life. Accidents involving injury or death necessitate the experience of an accident attorney to obtain compensation for medical bills.

If permanent disability or death occurs the injured or deceased’s family can seek financial compensation by hiring an accident lawyer. The courts will often award them financial support to make up for the loss of the primary supporter’s income as well as medical and burial expenses.
