Suicide Bomber Kills Five in Southern Afghanistan

A suicide bomber driving a minibus on the edge of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan has killed at least five people after detonating his vehicle when he was stopped by police.

Three officers were killed in the explosion and two civilians died while several others were left injured.

According to reports police had spotted the minibus and signaled for it to pull over. While officers were searching the vehicle the driver then blew himself up.

The suicide bomber had been traveling along a road from Kandahar to Herat, a common target for Taliban insurgents.
