Golfing legend Jack Nicklaus, who currently holds the coveted all-time record for most major golf championships won at 18, said recently that he believes Tiger Woods will probably strip him of his record one day. But Nicklaus says he's not too excited about having his record broken.
"Why would I want to give up my record?" asked Nicklaus rhetorically on Tuesday, shortly after arriving at Augusta National, where Woods will compete for his 15th major title at the Masters. "Why would I say that?"
Nicklaus used to take it for granted that Woods would one day surpass his coveted record. At the age of 30, Woods had won his 14th major title at the 2008 U.S. Open and was looking like an unstoppable force. But Woods has not win anything since, and some analysts are wondering if Woods can ever return to his previous form.
But Nicklaus doesn't seem to doubt Woods' ability to win five more major titles.
"I think Tiger will probably break my record," said Nicklaus. "I hope I'm around to see it if he does. But nobody wants to see their record broken."
