Emerald Bowl Scores: California Golden Bears Use Late Touchdown to Drop Miami Hurricanes

Jahvid Best rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns, Nate Longshore passed for 121 yards and a TD and the California Golden Bears (9-4) defense forced a pair of turnovers to beat the Miami Hurricanes (7-6) 24-17 in the Emerald Bowl on Saturday.

Best dominated the first quarter as the sophomore running back scored on runs of one and 42-yards to give California a 14-0 lead heading into the second.

The Hurricanes scored the only points of the second quarter as Jacory Harris found Laron Byrd on a 9-yard touchdown pass and Miami trailed 14-7 at the break. Harris tied the game at 14-14 midway through the third frame after finding Thearon Collier on a 6-yard toss but the Golden Bears reclaimed the lead 17-14 with 27 seconds left in the quarter when Giorgio Tavecchio kicked a 23-yard field goal.

Miami tied the game at 17-17 on a Matt Bosher 22-yard field goal but California grabbed the lead for good when Anthony Miller hauled in a 2-yard toss from Longshore with 2:41 left in the game and the Hurricanes had no answer.
