Israel Continues to Target Gaza Strip with Airstrikes, More than 230 Killed

Israel launched a series of airstrikes along the Gaza Strip on Saturday and those attacks have continued as Israeli officials have warned they won’t cease until Hamas halts their rocket attacks.

Saturday’s strikes killed at least 230 people according to Palestinian officials and while many belonged to Hamas there were a number of women and children among the casualties.

As Israel ordered more strikes on Sunday they also positioned tanks outside Gaza and have said they would be willing to send ground troops to continue the fight if Hamas did not meet their demands.

Israel has threatened to use any means necessary to halt the recent surge in rocket attacks launched by Hamas. Defense Minister Ehud Barack recently declared “there is a time for calm and a time for fighting, and now the time has come to fight.”

The UN Security Council has been calling for calm in the situation and began discussing a statement that would call for the end to Israeli force and Hamas attacks.
