Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall writing new sitcom

Adrian Edmondson and Rik Mayall are writing a sitcom about an old people's home.

The comic duo - best known for student comedy 'The Young Ones' and anarchic show 'Bottom', which followed two jobless flatmates - promise the new show will be as crazy as their previous efforts, despite featuring a much older generation of characters.

Adrian told The Sun newspaper: "Rik and I have an idea for a sitcom for when we are very, very old. We want to set it in an old people's home 30 years hence.

"It will be like 'Bottom', but we will be hitting each other with colostomy bags."

Adrian and Rik hadn't worked together for eight years until a recent performance on 'Let's Dance For Comic Relief' and TV bosses are hopeful that their planned new venture will also see them work with 'The Young Ones' co-stars Nigel Planer and Christopher Ryan again.

One insider said: "It's a genius idea to have Rik and Ade playing anarchic old fogeys.

"Fans and telly bosses would love to get Nigel and Christopher involved too - but they could need persuading."
