Turkey Strikes Kurdish Rebels in Northern Iraq

Turkey has sent fighter jets into northern Iraq, striking positions believed to held by the Kurdish separatist group Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The PKK has long struggled to create an autonomous region in southern Turkey and have used northern Iraq as a safe zone to organize their operations. Over the past several months Turkey has been conducting cross-border raids to engage the rebels and late Saturday they used airstrikes to hit specific targets.

Coupled with the airstrikes, Turkey has sent ground troops into southern Turkey along the Iraqi border. There has been no word on casualties from the most recent Turkish offensive.
