NFL Scores Week 17: Green Bay Packers Send Detroit Lions to NFL’s First Ever 0-16 Season

Aaron Rodgers was 21/31 passing for 308 yards and three touchdowns, Ryan Grant rushed for 106 yards on 19 carries while DeShawn Wynn collected 106 yards and a TD on seven carries and Donald Driver had 111 yards receiving and a score as the Green Bay Packers (6-10) edged the Detroit Lions (0-16) 31-21 on Sunday to send the Lions to the first 0-16 record in NFL history.

Green Bay looked like they would bury the Lions in the first quarter as Wynn scored on a 73-yard run and Rodgers pushed the Packers advantage to 14-0 when he hit Jermichael Finley on a 3-yard touchdown pass but Detroit didn’t pack it in.

In the second quarter Calvin Johnson scored on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Dan Orlovsky and the Lions trailed 14-7 at the half. The duo of Johnson and Orlovsky hooked up again in the third quarter, this time on a 14-yard TD, and the Lions pulled even at 14-14 heading into the fourth.

The Packers then awoke from their slumber in the final frame as Mason Crosby kicked a 36-yard field goal to give Green Bay a 17-14 lead and then Rodgers found John Kuhn on a 5-yard toss to push the advantage to 24-14. Detroit climbed right back into the game though as Kevin Smith scored on a 9-yard run with 7:32 left on the clock but less than 20 seconds later Rodgers hit Donald Driver on a 71-yard touchdown pass to crush the Lions hopes.

Detroit became the first team since the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers to finish the season winless. The Bucs closed the season 0-14 that year.
